We wrote our Pre-Chemistry quiz today. Period 3 writes Friday.
Started the Periodic Table…notes and discussion. Tomorrow we will be in the lab to start our Adopt-An-Element project. Students will only have access to one lab period during science. Please use your time wisely in the lab. Many students have already done some preliminary research. Good for you.
Reminder that SIAST notes need to be returned as soon as possible.

Students wrote their Safety Exams today. It seems most were prepared. Those students who do not achieve a mark of at least 80% will be rewriting the exam on Wednesday at lunch. Students who do not rewrite will not be participating in labs until a mark of 80% is reached.

Welcome to science 90. You are going to get your money’s worth today!
First on the agenda is the yucky paper work stuff. I will be sending home a media release form tomorrow. It is lengthy but I would really appreciate it if you could fill it out and return it as soon as possible. The reason I am sending this form home is that I am trying something new in science this semester. I am allowing students to film their science safety projects and we will post them to this blog and perhaps the PSSD website. Only first names will be posted. Those students who do not get permission to have their pictures posted may still do the assignment in this format but I will only view them not post them. I am attaching a sample of what a safety video might look like.
Today we began with science trivia. This is a new item that will start each day in science. Students will answer a trivia question posted on the board and will have an opportunity to win awesome prizes! Ok the prizes are just mediocre but it’s all about the challenge.
We then started our safety unit. We copied and reviewed the 17 lab safety rules in Mrs. Rosso’s science class. ( the link for the lab rules is at the top of this page…just click on the blue coloured “safety rules”). There will be an exam before we start labs and students must attain an 80% before they may participate in labs.
This year we will be concentrating on Laboratory Report Outlines. This has been the focus for the entire Science Department. My SMART goal is to have every student attain at least 75% in their lab reports by the end of the semester. I will have the outline and the rubric posted on the blog soon.
