Today we wrote our Electricity Exam. We tried some new things with this exam and had a hands on portion. All students have been invited to join our new science wiki space. Please check your emails this weekend for confirmation. See you Tuesday. Be ready for the Gummy Bear Lab. Read over your lab procedures.
Stay safe.
Wiki is Working!
Our wiki is now functional and we will have to start adding content. Check out the link on the blogroll on the left hand page of the blog. YAY!!
Congratulations Cole
Congratulations to Cole who took 2nd place at the City Track Meet yesterday in Javelin. He will now represent Peacock at Districts next Wednesday.
ATTENTION PARENTS
Students all received progress reports in science Wednesday. Those who are missing assignments have until Wednesday, June 6 to get them in. After that date they will receive an incomplete mark. Please check with your child and see if any assignments are missing. Most can be downloaded from the blog. If not students have to book a lunch time appointment with me and discuss when and how they are going to complete their work.
Today in period one we went to the lab and played around with Uploading and Youtube. We finished off the morning working on Topic One and Two in the Fluids unit.
Periods two and three finished up the Topic One and Two worksheet.
Don’t forget about your Electricty test tomorrow.
Here are some more thoughts on the Al Gore movie an Inconvenient truth.
I thought the movie was very infromative at times. And although I do try to keep up with current events, I had not heard of some of the subjects in the movie. I felt that this movie was more of a political campaign than anything. I admire Al Gore for doing this and trying to make people become more aware of the dangers of what we are doing to our earth. I really do believe that we need to change our actions now in order to have a place to live for generations to come. Yet people continue to harm the earth. And to just think about if the Himilayan glaciers melted, 40% of the worlds population would be without adequate drinking water. We really do need to change and realize what we are doing to our earth. -Leah H.
The movie An Inconvenient Truth was a pretty good movie. It had many good points. I also liked it because it told a bit about Al Gore’s life. This movie opened up the eyes for many people. I think that whoever has seen this movie, will become more aware of the issue that we are facing and try to do something to prevent it. I am kind of happy that Al Gore decided to make a movie on this topic because alot of people are unaware of how horrible this issue is. It is a problem that is very real and is very frightening. It is slowly disrupting the way of the earth. It kind of bugs me when people know alot about global warming, yet they continue to do alot of things that harm the earth. Or when people know about it but they say they don’t care that this is happening. I think everyone should care about what is happening, because everyone has to live on this planet.

INCONVENIENT TRUTH; Al Gore.
I thought that the movie was sort of slow, and i was expecting it to be alot
better. I thought it was going to actually be a movie, not a documentary.
But it was okay, it was an alright way to show people what is going on in
the world. I hated seeing the polar bears, and how everything was melting..
it kind of scared me. But im sure it scared everyone. I liked how Al Gore
actually went out and found out everything himself. It was sort of
surprising that someone actually cares that much, because it doesn’t seem to
me that many people do. It is definately even more scary how those states
are going to be flooding; so many people are going to be out of homes.. they
likely won’t have many places to go. And i’m sure some people won’t have the
money to actually move away or anything. Over all, it was a decent movie.
The thing i liked the most, was that he actually made a movie, and did
slideshows all across the world.

Periods 2&3 May 16
Today we went to the computer lab to learn a few things that will help us to hand in our Lab Reports in video form.
First, we figured out how to hook up our digital cameras to the computer and download the videos using scanner and camera wizard. We need to give the videos a very specific name and save them to our local drive under “pictures”.
Second, we logged on to Mrs. Rosso’s You tube site (no we don’t know her password) and uploaded our video to Youtube. Talk to your parents about having a Youtube account.
We then watched Mrs. Rosso upload a video to the blog. We will all get to try this again. Stay tuned to a short video tomorrow on how to download and upload the video!!
Period 1 Review Day
Yesterday’s answer to trivia was Bovine
Today’s question is “What are animals without backbones called?” a) invertebrates or b) vertebrates .
Today we corrected our practice exam for electricity and we got notes and read them and we worked on a worksheet for Fluids and Pressure.
The next blogger will be Shawn
Triple Beam and Volume
Yesterday’s trivia question was “How many legs does an arachnid have?” The answer was 8. Arachnids are spiders, scorpions and ticks. The three winners were Braeden, Elysia and Matt.
Today’s question was “Which term refers to cows and oxen?” Possible answers are
a) bovine b) vulpine or c) porcine
Today in science we reviewed volume AGAIN. We are making the connection between cubic centimetres and ml. 1mL=1cubic centimentre therefore if we find the volume of a block using l x w x h and then using the displacement method our findings should be the same.
We finished off the period doing a practice Electricity Exam. Try all the questions without using your book, then ask a friend then check your books. We will go over the exam tomorrow and write out an outline for the exam. PLEASE do not wait until Thursday night to study. Have a look for a few minutes every night.
For those who are going to hand in their lab reports in video form please bring your cameras on Wednesday. We will be going to the lab to learn how to download video from your camera, upload to Youtube and upload to the blog.
My apologies to Brent who did not get to blog today because students were uploading their video.
Triple Beam Balance
Here are Jesse and Shaun showing us how to use the triple beam balance. Nice job gentlemen!
May 14
Today’s Trivia winners were Alysha, Marissa and Cole. the question was which teeth are made for grinding, molars, incisors or canines? The correct answer was molars.
We watched a few of our lab videos today. We were watching to see what was done well and what was not. Mrs. Rosso is going to let us do our lab reports in video form instead of paper and pen. We only have to do one video so it’s a no brainer!! BUT all the parts of the lab report have to be included in the video. We are going to practice on Thursday.
We went over our exam questions that we made on Friday. Our exam is on Friday, May 18.
We also had time to work with the Triple Beam Balances as we need to know how to use them for our exam.
Period 2 fed the worms today. See the Youtube video attached.
